Piwigo is amazing, and the only selfhosted photo gallery that truly functions as a "professional" photographer website, in my opinion. The granular album control, ability to read files 'in place', and the metadata it is able to read make is stand far above any other photo gallery app out there right now.

The only problem with Piwigo, in my opinion, is that it cannot read the 'Rating' tag in a jpeg image that it 'synchronizes'. I, as the person maintaining the site, rate and tag all of my photos - therefore, I want to be able to use that metadata when presenting my photos on my site. The Smart-Album plugin makes is incredibly easy to make 'Event Highlight' sub-albums that are highly rated photos within an event album stored on my local file system - However, getting to that point requires some config hackery and an extra lightroom plugin to export stars into a Tag when a photo is exported.

Ideally, Piwigo should have the capability to read the 'Rating' tag in a jpeg image so that it can be utilized for various 'filtered actions' (or the upcoming Search update with Piwigo 14).

There have been multiple questions on the forum about how to import stars from the metadata, but nothing really ever gets resolved, leaving anyone who comes searching for an answer just as lost as the person who wrote it ages ago:

I'm not sure how piwigo would handle it, but I would love to see it just straight up read the 'Rating' field into the actual Star Rating that Piwigo uses to track things. I am the only user of my site, so designating the "1 rate" to be from my user would be feasible, but I'm sure others have multiple users, meaning that there would need to be a system in place to designate who did the rating on the image.
