I am curious, how do you combine a blog / news function with Piwigo?

I am aware of EvileBlog, but it is to old to even try to use nor really what I am after.

On one site I used image descriptions and an album as News / Blogs posts but it became to hard to maintain... https://homeworldshots.net/index.php?/c … lease-read . I disabled it, but re enabled it for you guys to see...

So what I would like to accomplish is a vertical column with linked news items on one side of the gallery...

Anyone done that? No, I would not like to use iframes, even if it might be a solution to some....

No one has a blog combined with their gallery?

Re: I am curious, how do you combine a blog / news function with Piwigo?

I maintain several very small sites, connected, but independent, not technically embedded or integrated in each other. As far as possible, I try to give them a similar look, and in each one there are links to the others.

One is made with classified articles. Not a blog. There, I may use photos located on my Piwigo. And sometimes,  I reprint one of its articles as an additionnal page of my Piwigo.

Another is a genealogy site. I may use there medias located on my Piwigo. And the front page displays a RSS thread of a section of my forum. For the contact link of my genealogy site leads towards my forum.

And the forum too can use photos of the Piwigo.

Quite a (very small) galaxy of websites, but no blog among them.

I miss this functionality, too. First of all a common authentication/login with wordpress.

Here's a thread on PWG with wordpress: https://piwigo.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=29997

Re: I am curious, how do you combine a blog / news function with Piwigo?

I would never combine WP and Piwigo, but that is just me. For that, and if I had the money to throw at it, I would have to go for 100% WordPress with some fancy and expensive photogallery plugin. I rather keep doing occasional donations to Piwigo...

WP.. actually... for one site and one sub, not really that expensive
https://www.wpbeginner.com/best-wordpre … y-plugins/ You can get it for about 50-75$ per year...

Ok, so I dump Piwigo and get in to Wordpress because I rather have a bloated system with 10% of what I need, instead of a trimmed efficient system with 90% of what I need...?

TBH, I do already run a few WP sites, not for images though... ... it is awful.

I think you may put too much in the word "blog", but then again it is so common so how to avoid it.

Basically all I would need is a simple WYSIWYG text posting interface that would allow me to post some news or incidents about the site as they happen...and the ability to put this in the layout, horizontal or vertical, top or bottom, left or right, without really disturbing the overall album layout....

Re: I am curious, how do you combine a blog / news function with Piwigo?

Why not looking into some Piwigo existing features and adapting them to display them on home page : comments and/or RSS threads ?

I started to use comments to add some extra details and anecdotes/facts/stories. Here, for instance : https://album.chauvigne.info/comments.php If I manage supressing the 2 frames above, the page could be interesting.

The last x comments can also be positioned on the home page with PWGStuff.

As for the rss thread, it needs some triming before getting really useful : https://album.chauvigne.info/feed.php?f … JNikCMs0M4
But I know how to insert a clean rss feed on a front page and it can be interesting.

Nice cars there... :) Reminds me of my youth in Spain..

So you have a comment filter that you display on an additional page? No...

hmm... Wait, thinking loud here...

you pick comments from posted images and post there, but how do you direct the comments over there...
hum, just a listing of comments.php...
So if I made a comment category I should be able to sort its view in an defined additional page..

https://lotroshots.net/comments.php gives error...  if you do not select an existing album, and sometimes even then...

Code:

define_derivative missing width

#1  Template::func_define_derivative /home/conramcom/domains/lotroshots.net/public_html/_data/templates_c/k711tb^a848f2785f1b7ca74d4ff91ad4861f14646eb395_0.file.comment_list.tpl.php(73)

#13  Template::pparse /home/conramcom/domains/lotroshots.net/public_html/comments.php(545)

This one does not give error:
https://homeworldshots.net/comments.php

So I need to add comments to a fictive album and get that album id and show those comments on an additional page that is not the fictive album page... cause you can't post comments that are not associated to an album.

Re: I am curious, how do you combine a blog / news function with Piwigo?

Just install the plugin PWGstuff and create a "box" with the last comments. In the plugin settings, choose the number of comments to display and the location on the home page. Look at the bottom of my home page : https://album.chauvigne.info/

Nope, no way to filter MY comments in pwgstuff.

That will not work, since commenting is enabled for members.
