First of all, thanks for this great application. Now here is my suggestion...

I resized the images in the upload folder with mogrify instead of re-uploading, thinking the "Synchronize metadata (filesize, width, height)" option would update the database, but I realize now it only syncs the galleries folder.

Considering how easy it is to reach our hosting plan storage limits with an application like Piwigo, would it be practical to add this exact same fonctionality for the upload folder? Maybe even adding a "Resize now" button next to the "Resize after upload" option and let Piwigo do the resizing?
