Bootstrap - Darkroom - question on "Thumbnails"

Hello @hannah,

I found your theme by accident and I really like the way you have laid out the template and the general aesthetics and built in options of the theme. But (why does there always have to be a but! :) ) I'm unable to use the theme because of the square thumbnails.

I'm a portrait photographer, so unfortunately with square thumbnails most of the people / models I photograph end up being decapitated when the original portrait photograph is converted to a square. (BLAST) In fairness I've seen this a lot on different themes recently with thumbnails being square!

Would it be possible to :-

1/ Keep the theme thumbnail size as-is but when the photograph is portrait orientated, the entire photograph is shown as a thumbnail. This could also be a setting as to how to display thumbnails.

OR

2/ Add an option in the settings to choose either "Top" - "Middle" (default) - "Bottom" of the portrait photograph to use.  No change if photograph is "landscape".

Anyways, thought I would pass this on and hope that there might be something you could do to help us portrait thumbnail photographers!

Similar to what I need : https://serendipity.soft-focus-imaginin … emp_photos

What the square thumbnails do : https://serendipity.soft-focus-imaginin … emp_photos

Kind Regards / Happy New Year ...

Re: Bootstrap - Darkroom - question on "Thumbnails"

Hello Nigel,
This is a bootstrap Darkroom customised by me : https://album.chauvigne.info/index?/cat … s_de_nancy

I use the plugin GThumb + which enable an other display of thumbnails You might give it a try. https://piwigo.org/ext/extension_view.php?eid=591

Re: Bootstrap - Darkroom - question on "Thumbnails"

@Katryne

Very nice web site.

I tried GDthumb and ended up with tons of PHP errors! But when I change the default setting of Thumbnail Mode to "Resize" it all started working OK.

I'm playing around on my test site. I like to have a different home page than "Albums", and unfortunately the Albums pulldown doesn't allow all the albums to be displayed at once. Probably would be a good enhancement to have "ALL" as the very first thing to select, or my preference is to have a side menu like other themes.

I'm taking a break from this for now. I'll try tomorrow.

Many Thanks - Nigel.

Nigel, I did not write GDthumb, but GTthumb+ : https://piwigo.org/ext/extension_view.php?eid=591

It runs smoothly, but I still have 13.3.0 and not 13.4

This is already a functionnality of piwigo, if you go to the edit your photo in the administration, you have a tab center of interest. Here you can define which part of the image is used for the thumbnails.

Otherwise a Katryne said, Gthumb+ is a great option ! it allows you to have pictures fully displayed, even with just the default settings. Here is an example:

To display all albums, you can click on the name of your gallery in the top left corner, or use the little house icon in the second menu to bring you back to the page you are looking for :-)

Re: Bootstrap - Darkroom - question on "Thumbnails"

@hannah

Thank you for the write up. I did find "Centre of Interest" setting, but it would be impossible (well, nearly impossible! :) ) to set 22,579 photographs in 457 Albums to use this setting. I do like the way it was implemented but it's not a setting in Batch Manager.

All I was looking for was to set a thumbnail to "Top" as a global setting for portrait photographs.

I tried using GThumb+ but that doesn't work with "Album" pages, where as, GDThumb does, so I used that.  (the other issue I have is that neither GDT or GT+ is used by the "PWG Stuffs" plugin, so those get cropped as well.

Second. The "little house" doesn't work as my opening page is it is an explanation on how to use the gallery (which of course no one reads!) using "Additional Pages". I think it's a shame that when you clich "Albums" menu it doesn't automatically refresh to "All Top Level Albums".

Anyways, thanks for the message, stay safe out there.

Nigel.

@matthys

I had a look at your web site as well, and zoo picture of the giraffe hit the spot!

Yes, that is what I was looking for without having to use a thumbnail plugin.
