I understand that there are already several ways to sort images - but it would be great if, after upload and looking at them one could shift them around manually, ignoring title or file name etc.
.
Since it is already possibly to manually sort the virtual category order, same could/would be fantastic for images. :)

You can do that:
- Edit a category
- Click on this icon:
- Order your photos!
After that, in the category parameters, you have to uncheck "Use the default image sort order (defined in the configuration file)", then select Rank - acsending.
PS: in 2.1, you will be able to order photos by drag&drop.

I suppose there will be a sort order fiield in the database then? Then I can bulk load it with what I want.
I have the problem too that non of the sort orders is the right one for me.

It won't be easy, as you'll have to know the ids of both the category and the image.
Anyway, look at the rank field in the image_category table.

Well, I have 9500 images, scanned magazine articles.

I put tags and comment in through the database, so much faster then editing via web browser.

Manual sort order:
I did exactly as told, sort, then unchecked default sort order.
It does NOT keep the order. Images are in a weird order then - nothing like I selected manually.
I am finally out of time fiddling with this script version 2.09. and cannot wait right now for the 2.1 version.
I will check back here in a few months again. Till then I will just use gallery2 again - no choice. :(
I will have too many images to sort etc.
Hopefully the 2.1 version - in due time eventually will be available.
Thanks for all the help I received the past few weeks, sadly I have to use something else now.

2.1 version will be available very soon: it's a matter of week(s), days maybe. (See [Forum, topic 15924] Piwigo 2.1.0 release notes under preparation)
